God is Teaching me the True Things in Life

By Elizabeth Rojas, Costa Rica

God began to teach me about new things in life … I began to feel how Him whispering to my soul while I was working with La Clinica de la Mariposa I would like you to know that I can still remember when I met Dr. Davis for the first time. He showed up at the airport with a huge smile, which he kept during all the hours he treated his patients.

I was a little bit nervous when I started working with CFCA just a few months ago. Dr. Davis has had lots of patience and generosity, and he has shared that with me. He taught me about chiropractic, knowledge, humility, and the trust of Our Good Lord.

As the days passed by, I began to be interested in chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy. I have been studying physical education, and have been thinking that maybe I was born to help people to relieve their pain. I want to help them, not only in a physical way, but also in an emotional way.
The year afterward, when the Costa Rican supervisor of La Clinica de la Mariposa, Rafael Villalobos, told me that Dr. Davis was planning to visit Costa Rica with some students, I was very, very happy and surprised. I couldn’t believe that many people were thinking about coming to my country to help the poor children and elderly persons. When I met the students I realized that they were very smart and also that they were willing to share all the nice feelings they had with Costa Ricans. I learned and smile with them. Each one that came down taught me many nice things that I treasure in my heart.

Sometimes while I was working, I was thinking about how hard is to let go someone who you really learned to appreciate. I guess that the only “bad” experience that I have had with the Clinic, was when the students left. Please know that all of you are not gone, I treasure you in my heart.

There are so many things that happen while you are working at the Clinic. For example, the emotional support you can provide to someone, a big kiss, a hug and a “ Dios te Bendiga” “May God Bless You” given by a patient to a chiropractor after he or she treats her or him. I was so blessed to keep seeing how people continue to improve their health after the students and Dr. Davis were gone.

I used to be an interpreter with CFCA and during the three years that I worked there translating letters, I was able to read how thankful people were to La Clinica de la Mariposa. Through the letters, the sponsored people let their sponsors know how the chiropractors had changed their lives.

La Clinica de la Mariposa and the students involved in this heart warming experience have changed my life completely. A student named Cindy Shepard encouraged me to begin studying physical therapy and Dr. Davis encouraged and keeps encouraging me to do the best of the best in my studies, job and life.
Thanks to Dr. Davis and the Rotary group I was able to visit Minnesota. It was my first time out of my country. Dr. Davis gave me the chance to be the translator of a young lady named Marjorie Ramirez. Thanks to all the efforts that many people did, she was able to get a new and excellent prosthesis for her leg. That was the most beautiful experience I’ll probably experience during my whole life. Marjorie and I met all the students that came to Costa Rica and we shared very very nice moments with them. All of them received us with lots of hugs and smiles.

While we were at the clinic in Minnesota, trying to see what kind of prosthesis was the best one for her, Cate Braun, the woman that was in charge of helping Marjorie with her prosthesis, encouraged both us in so many ways that I really think that God spoke both us through her.

God has spoken to me in so many ways but I have felt His tenderness in my life through the Clinic. I just want to thank EVERY ONE that have worked with La Clinica, thanks to Cindy, Tom, Thomas, Wendy, Michelle, Barry, Joustin, Dr. Smith, Mike, Kelly, Kim, Amy, Kirsten, Dr. Bergmann and his wife, Lynne, Sister Rosalind, Dr. Davis, the CFCA staff and the staff and volunteers who will come in the near future. I must tell you that I believe in the Clinic and the people that work hard to make things better and to change lives. Thanks to every one that makes possible such a big miracle of love! God bless you all!!!
